CIGAR - a true piece of art

Today I had the grand pleasure to participate in a personal cigar degustation that our chief connaisseur offered me in order to continue my a step by step introduction into the world of cigars !

DANNEMANN produces all its noble Artist Line Reserva hand-rolled premium cigars in the original tobacco manufactory in São Félix in the RecÔncavo region in Bahia.

We differentiate between two types of covers, the so-called capa: the rather dark Bahia Brasil and Sumatra, which shows a lighter color. The cover has a big influence in the taste of the whole cigar and this is one of the aspects that  we could experience.

There are a lot of different aromi and flavors in a variety of nuances - just like with wine. The whole experience starts already with making the cigar ready to light it: cutting off the "head" of the cigar. With anything but a benzin lighter and a candle, the cigar can be started off. [ Oh - before that, we were smelling the cigar. ]

And now we start with the actual degustation. The taste changes while smoking - it gets warm, it develops its full aroma and towards the end again it usually changes - more or less ... depending on quality and composition, etc.

What was rather new and interesting to me was to "eat" the cigar - taste the tobacco, chew the leaf  *um pouco*

Trying a Bahia Brasil and a Sumatra, both planted in the Mata Fina micro-region in RecÔncavo, at the same degustation and even tasting them blindfolded was a special experience indeed!!

Canta Bahia

I'm absolutely happy to be back here again and realize only now how much I missed South America and the Latino Way of Life during these almost three years of not being here!

The landscape in rural Brazil - Recôncavo in the state of Bahia - is gorgeous, the people welcoming, the food delicious, the fresh fruits directly from the trees amazing the tropical climate just wonderful!

Until summer I will live here and I'm very much excited what the next months will bring - another magnificent and unique experience, that's for sure. And at this point I'd like thank my family for their constant encouragement ... it means a lot to me :-)

Furthermore, I also want to mention that I appreciate to have received lovely, heartening mails from friends around this planet, particularly in the last days and weeks: thank you very much they didn't only make my day but are a highly valuable source of empowerment!

BRAZIL is calling

again ... after my two visits in Brazil, I will fly to the world's 5th biggest country to live there until summer 2012!

I just came back from three intensive and interesting weeks in Germany and Switzerland to my family in Austria. Next week - full with new ideas, impressions and particularly knowledge in my luggage - I will take off to Salvador de Bahia :-))

Another horizon-broadening experience awaits me and somehow I can't believe I'm skiing in the marvellous Austrian Alps these days while sitting in 35°C next week...

Thank you very much to all those of you who made my last three weeks so special!

Deutschland – Italien – Schweiz in 3 Stunden

It's 17:14 we have sunshine and completely blue sky and well, temperatures of around 10°C are acceptable under these circumstances ;)

Today is my personal Guacamole Day ... I just bought some "aguacates" and trying various versions for a tasty baguette-spread!

I'm off to my beloved Austria on Monday and can't wait to be with my family for these first special, traditional "steirische Weihnachten" in three years and drink our delicious Glühwein, eat my Mum's Christmas cookies, wander around my little village at night to see all the Christmas lights in people's houses and gardens and chill out sitting with my back towards our big tiled oven ... our lovely Kachelofen :-))

You can never go home again, but the truth is
you can never really leave home, so it's all right.

PAMPLONA in Navarra

At 7:00 in the morning I left San Sebastian to head for Pamplona in the region of Navarra about an hour away. The famous Pilgrimage Route to Santiago de Compostela is going through here and this is how it came that I even walked a tiny distance of this path :-))

Pamplona is beautifully green with the old city - the center - built on top of a hill surrounded by thick and high fortification walls! From above there you can see the whole region, down to the river and into the expansive gardens that surround the western and northern part of the city!

Pamplona is the city where San Fermín, the bull run, is taking place every summer. Men are running through the streets, followed by the bulls ... or viceversa ...  ;-))

Pamplona is a lovely little town with all these small speciality shops ... panaderías, carnicería, frutería, pastelería, cerveczería, ...

Roe deers in the cities biggest park ..

In the afternoon I met Anita with who I studied together in my Exportmanagement Bachelor's in Austria ... and her charming boyfriend.
It was great meeting you again after such a looong time and catching up a bit!!

On my way back to Madrid I took the bus again and when we were only 15min away from the bus terminal, we had an accident. Miraculously nobody got hurt seriously!! We were driving on a 4-lane highway when a car suddenly stopped. So, we crashed it and the bus went left to reduce the impact. Another car was on the left lane though and so we also crashed this one. Two cars pushed in our bus from behind and another one from the side ... so yes - pure chaos!
